The concept for Svalbarði began forming at the time our founder Jamal Qureshi was living in the southern Norwegian city of Stavanger. Known as the entrance to western Norway's fjord country, Stavanger is also home to some of Norway's finest culinary experiences. It is the only city outside of Oslo with Michelin star awarded restaurants. Despite being only one-fifth the size of the capital, Stavanger has two Michelin star restaurants to Oslo's four. And from that culinary environment has come one of Norway's top chefs, Danièl Rougè Madsen, founder of DRM of Norway.
Danièl has worked at some of the world’s best restaurants, including the 3 Michelin star Waterside Inn in London, Michel Roux in Las Vegas, and the 2 Michelin star Le Moulin in France. And he has entertained presidents, politicians, royalty and celebrities such as Liz Hurley, Cliff Richard, Chris Rea and Jeremy Irons. Together with Bocuse d’Or winner and Culinary Team Master Andreas Høy Knudsen, he co-authored Norway’s Best Cookbook of 2012 – “The best seafood from the cold clear waters of Norway”.
The founder of DRM was to be seen on Norwegian television when TV2 launched the celebrity-packed cooking duel series "Fingrene av fatet" in 2015. Danièl also enjoys sharing his cooking and recipes to a broader audience. You can try Danièls gourmet recipes yourself with full online cooking demonstrations.
Passion for food and quality
DRM of Norway was founded in 2014 with the goal of channeling Madsen's passion for food into creating a unique Norwegian luxury brand, offering quality-minded clients an exclusive collection of handcrafted products and special experiences. They provide a range of luxury Nordic dining experiences in Norway and internationally. These include personal and corporate events, yacht hospitality, live public culinary shows, courses in Norwegian food and dining culture for chefs, and speaking engagements focused on gastronomy and related motivational themes.
Danièl and DRM have a particular focus on blending the finest natural Norwegian ingredients and traditional preparation methods into contemporary culinary experiences. With DRM's roots in southern Norway's Rogaland region, and Svalbarði bringing the taste of Norway's furthest north arctic territories, DRM's customers can enjoy the full range of the country's pure natural flavours from land and sea.
